Hereticus by Dan Abnett

In terms of excitement this was likely the best entry of the three. It wasn't perfect, but it was devoid of the dead spots that so bored me in book one and two.

I think my ultimate qualm with the series is that the climaxes in each don't really satisfy. To some extent they all barely-touched upon, even when the trip to get there is extremely engaging, as was in this book.

Maybe it's just warped expectations but after Glaw killed almost everyone Eisenhorn knew I expected something more meat for an ending. Specially after Ravenor's but about how there was no future to be foresee after a certain point. Hells, even the setting for the last fight seemed appropriately epic. But the confrontation itself was anything but.

It's like Dan just abruptly and unexpectedly ran out of steam. Still, I'll give this one four stars because despite this qualm I really enjoyed the book a lot.
