I loved the set up of this book: a secret anarchist society that is infiltrated by a police officer who slowly ends up finding that most of the secret members are other police officers infiltrating the society. And at the beginning, and tbf mostly throughout, there were lots of laugh out loud moments; also, it's definitely ahead of its time, feeling so much more modern than its 1905 publication would make you think.
However, I thought it was going to be a farce, and it just took itself wayyyyy to seriously in the end, and I think the author did want it to be some fast paced thriller, which did not work at all. It was like trying to combine alice in wonderland with the Bourne identity or something- not exactly a match made in heaven. And by making it serious, it just became....stupid.
