Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

5.0

Jane is the epitome of “bridling your passions,” sacrificing the immediate fulfillment of human desires for love and affection to keep her conscience clean.

Then Jane meets John. At first glance, he seems to symbolize total consecration of heart; just as Jane does, he gives up the woman he loves for a higher reason.
Yet he reveals himself to be another kind of poser, self-righteously claiming that Jane is abandoning God’s path if she rejects his marriage proposal. At this point, Jane stills yearns to find a path where her conscience and heart can meet.

This book is an inspiring reminder that people can transcend their circumstances and do what they feel is right in the dignity of their spirit.
