Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas

I was excited to read this after having watched the movie "The Hate U Give", but after a chapter or two I wasn't sure that I was going to like it. The language was a little tough for me to pick up on, and since I don't like kids the storyline started to head in a direction that I didn't think I would like. BUT WAS I WRONG! I absolutely loved this book and ended up reading the entire thing in one sitting. I quickly adjusted to the vernacular (and I'm glad to be exposed to it so I'm not as ignorant), and the storyline ended up being far different than I expected. There were so many little twists and surprises that my jaw was dropping every two chapters. The last two chapters had me in tears and then in smiles-- both of which are signs of an excellent story in my opinion. I highly recommend this book-- it's great for both teenagers and adults and will be sure to grip you tight and not let go until you finish it.
