Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey
5.0

If you want to laugh and to find a narrator who you can root for on every page, this contemporary romance is for you! This book is the perfect romantic comedy for romantic-comedy lovers everywhere.

Aspiring-writer Annie Cassidy is looking for love, but not just any love—she’s waiting for very own, real-life version of a Tom Hanks character. Cue love-interest/Hollywood-actor Drew Danforth, and suddenly Annie’s life is a real-life rom-com.

This book made me smile and laugh and swoon. These characters are so fleshed-out and real, and the dialogue is genius. I could see this book playing out on a theater screen while I was reading, which was obviously the whole point.

I think it’s refreshing when a book can acknowledge the cliches in story plot lines, and this book does it respectfully yet comically. The way this book follows the “typical” romantic-comedy plot but also deviates from it at the necessary points is brilliant.

Waiting for Tom Hanks takes pleasure in pointing out the cliches in modern romantic-comedy films while also advocating them. After all, who doesn’t love a good love story?
