Winner of the 1997 Edgar award. Either it was a lean year or the Edgars aren't much of a barometer these days. OK, it wasn't that bad.
This was quite well written, told from the perspective of a middle aged man looking back on an illicit affair he was privy to as a boy in 1920's Cape Cod.
All in all a good read, but story-wise, it merely plodded along towards a predictable ending.
