Slouching Towards Bethlehem
by Joan Didion
reflective
medium-paced
Took me a while to get used to her style of writing and the format having come from reading mainly narrative fiction. I feel Didion is at her best when capturing fleeting moments and feelings that are often forgotten or so delicate people don’t try to articulate them. But they’re essential parts of a human life. Some of the glamour of 60’s USA is delightful to be among with some of the murkier moments leaving dirt under your nails as a reader. This book made me feel companionship with Joan and admire her skill in capturing the mundane with such beauty and profundity
