"but what are kings, when regiment is gone, / but perfect shadows in a sunshine day?" the venn diagram of -phobias and -isms makes it a bit of a headache to parse at times (i still don't get the play's stance on the monarchy) but we love gaveston. dick that can turn a king into the world's #1 simp and kickstart a civil war that kills half the british elite should be respected.

every character (except the literal kid prince) was definitely written to be at least a little hateable but unfortunately for kit marlowe i ride for the gays. also a lot of the supporting characters feel like hollow mouthpieces, which is a shame because it takes away from how great their dialogue is. gets much better in the second half when everyone starts being awful human beings on purpose <3
