Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth
4.0

Absolutely LOVED this book! I never read the Divergent series, but this story had an interesting enough premise that had me curious to check out. Also, I heard there was some surrounding controversy around it so it flew to the top of my TBR for that reason.

I honestly don't know what was suppose to be so controversial about it. It didn't appear that the author was "glorifying" chronic pain. I didn't see any "racist" themes. The only thing I noticed that could be perhaps "triggering" for some people is the actual "carving the mark" in characters' arms when they kill or experience a loss. But other than that, there was nothing remotely upsetting in my opinion. Please enlighten me if there was suppose to be.

I always try to find the simplest way to explain this story but I never can because there is so much detail in creating this universe. It had its slow parts, which were easy to sort of skim through but otherwise the story moved pretty fast. When big events did happen, I would be too excited to put the book down as it would get so immersive at times. I'm really excited this is the start of a new series. It definitely leaves you wanting more answers but at the same time it wraps up in a way that leaves you satisfied.
