Does book 2 fall under the "sequel not as good as the first" curse? Absolutely not! I think I actually enjoyed it even more! Brando Sando continues to grasp my intrigue in his incredibly realized world.  Wonderful character development of the main character, and especially of her supporting characters.  Excellent socio-political dialog.  Only one note for those who want more than is actually portrayed: while romance does play a part in this story, it is not described in a manner say similar to Sarah J. Maas 😅.

Absolutely recommended for everyone to read!

Very light spoilers below with my one very minimal complaint (definitely not changing my 5 ⭐):

I wish that overthrowing the city did not take up as much of the narrative as it did, not to say that I wasn't very interested in all the battles.  I only say this because the book is called "The Well of Ascension" and I yearned for more knowledge throughout the whole story of this well (which could have very well been the intent).
