Dream On by Angie Hockman

1.0

i feel like it's been long enough since i read this that i can (somewhat) review it without it setting me off. i think my biggest disappointment with this book was probably the bait-and-switch romance. i don't particularly enjoy having one character as the love interest, and then switching it midway. maybe it was a longer book, i would've seen the point, but i didn't and it left me feeling very odd. besides that, i really didn't care for the characters, either the main or the two men, or the side characters, so it was hard for me to enjoy the book and not feel like i was forcing myself to get through it. there was one particular plotline that made me sort of cry out loud, but even that.. was so uncomfortable, really, that i can't bring myself to raise the rating just because of it.
the writing, as per usual to angie hockman, was a little too simplistic for me. i understand this is contemporary romance, but i do believe nuance and profundity have a place everywhere, and that certain aspect was sorely missing.
(i know how clinical this review sounds, my god, but it's been six months since i read it, and i can't summon more than a shallow disinterest.)
thank you to atria books for the arc! i was looking forward to this book for months (particularly due to the cover, because woah?), and i know i didn't like it much (or at all), but i do appreciate the opportunity to receive a copy.:)
