From Third World to First: Singapore and the Asian Economic Boom by Lee Kuan Yew

5.0

The book is an interesting exploration of how Lee Kuan Yew navigated the turbulent times of the mid to late-twentieth century as Prime Minister of Singapore. Transforming the nation from a poor island to a world-class hub, playing a significant role in the global economy. I appreciated the accessibility of the book, it was easy to read and structured through a series of themes which made it easy to know where I was. I found it a little unnerving that he constantly spreads praise about Singapore and tends to disagree quite passionately with liberal democracies but I nevertheless respect the effort he went to analyse Singapore's success and provide reasons for its growth and subsequent good relations with its neighbors despite some difficult beginnings.
