Caravaggio: A Play in Two Acts by Michael Whitney Straight

This was an excellent play. Michael Straight has done quite a bit of research and investigative work, and made something raw, dramatic, dark, and at times shockingly beautiful. Laid out on the page is Caravaggio through the lens of both modern enjoyers of this artwork, and his contemporaries that often hated him. We see Caravaggio as both the inspired painter with his own trials, experiences, and convictions, and at the same time he is pictured as a brutal, vulgar, and egotistic man.
This play reads well, and is great for people who already know of Caravaggio and his works, and can appreciate a fictionalized play of his life that is nonetheless steeped in art history.
