Enter a Murderer by Ngaio Marsh

mysterious fast-paced

3.0

Perfectly competent whodunnit, this one a murder during a theatrical production! Bathgate is certainly not my favorite “Watson” in this genre, 0/2 on him not being an annoying journalist. Alleyn is a fun detective though, he’s a bit of a yuckster and I enjoy how he utilizes that in his questionings with the suspects. His “romance” side plot with one of the suspects however is the worst part of the book, veering it off into a region that even I and my love of stupid nonsense found to be beyond what any reasonable investigator would do.

All that being said, Marsh’s prose may be superior to Christie’s.
