I had such high hopes for this book and.... it fell so flat to me, it almost put me in a reading slump. I didn't get attached to ANY character in the book, which was a pain since it is very clearly character-driven. At best they felt kinda boring, and at worse they were soooo annoying. Everytime I felt like it was getting better, they started to get annoying again for no reason at all and all of a sudden. And the author's choices felt somewhat... questionable to say the least sometimes. what do you mean Sadie stays friends with the man who abused her when she was barely out of her teens and who KEEPS ABUSING YOUNG WOMEN ??? and I feel like so many things were skimmed through which made it even harder to sympathize with the characters and understand them. The only thing I loved was everything about video games. The way they were described made them seem almost real and feel as if you were playing them yourself, and the concepts were all very cool. It was especially nice when Sadie and Sam worked together to create them, which were the only endearing moments in the book to me. (and there weren't nearly enough since they kept arguing for no reason)
