Brief summary - This first book of an epic fantasy series follows a boy whose family was massacred and is on the run as the last remaining royal awaiting revenge. It also follows a young girl of a different land whose brother was also involved in the massacre. As the book evolves and they grow up, you learn how their lives are intricately linked.

I cannot wait for the next book in this series. It reminded me a lot of The Sword of Kaigen - same vibes. The different POVs allowed a personal view into the different characters and allowed new information to flow into the story smoothly without feeling like an info dump. It can be hard sometimes conveying the inner dialogue of a young child without the writing sounding YA, but Bado executes this exceptionally well.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Voyager for Birth of a Dynasty by Chinaza Bado. This was my second ever book mail from a publisher. I am extremely grateful.
