The spooks were good and I liked the overall idea of the story, it just didn’t work as a book / novella for me. I think if you took the beats of this story, it would be a pretty solid screenplay, but the dialogue was also very one dimensional so I’m not so sure. Honestly, it could’ve taken 3 or 4 more drafts for it to have been really solid and for the characters to have been more fleshed out.
Also, I don’t know if something happened with the document that was uploaded, but the formatting was all over the place. There were numerous spots where new paragraphs would randomly start in the middle of a thought or sentence, most especially mid-dialogue. There were also so many typos and incorrect grammar usage, that it just stood out the entire time I was reading.
However, even if you overlook these issues, the narrative itself was lacking in connection to me. None of the characters stood out as special or 3-dimensional, and their personality traits were just told to us instead of shown. The only character I felt any sort of connection to was the dog, Mia (seriously she’s so precious, I love her).
I can’t say I would recommend this particular book, but the ideas were solid enough that I think I would check out a future, hopefully more polished, project.
