Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery by Brom

5.0

Someone once asked me what 5 books I would want to be buried with. I just punted a book in that line up into outer space to put Slewfoot into its rightful spot in my coffin.

Someone else said something like this... Slewfoot is the definition of supporting women's rights AND women's wrongs. I could not agree more. This was such an entrapping story, I could NOT stop reading. Abitha will definitely live in my heart forever and the foundation of the story is just so perfectly done. I loved the dialogue, the quippy remarks, the occasional "fuck!" & the true magic that was bottled up amongst it's pages. The illustrations were such a beautiful and eerie touch - Brom can quite literally allow you to dive head first into his books and keep you there until you've gotten to the final page. Witchcraft is something I hold near and dear to my heart - especially all of the women who endured SO much to practice.

I also don't want to downplay this book to be one of fantastical rage and magic. This book is dark and violent and very intense. I ha to put it down a few times in the last 100 pages, but more because I was so DEEPLY invested in these characters that I truly couldn't bear any more pain. I don't want to say anything else. I want you to stop what you're doing right now and pick this up.

A zillion stars!
