Fool Moon by Jim Butcher

2.0

More of a 2.5/5 stars.

I'm shocked that I gave the first book such a high rating. I think this installation really reveals how dated these books are.

Dresden's hero complex is just unbearable in this edition. His belittling of women, disguised as "chivalry," was just too much. Where it was kind of eyebrow raising in the first book, it really just grated in this one. And Murphy? So focused on being strong that she forgets to be smart. Annoying, annoying, annoying.

I'm giving this book a higher rating than I normally would because 1) I do enjoy the mystery/urban fantasy fusion and 2) James Marsters voicing the audiobook makes this so pleasant for the ears.

Probably won't be continuing with the series though. A shame, because I've heard that it really does get better as it goes on.
