just an absolute breathtakingly, gorgeous piece of writing. vuong’s voice is poetic, lyrical, deep and incredibly emotional. the letter format felt all the more personal and profound when reading it, as if you too are in the authors shoes. how he portrayed the immigrant experience and the impact it has on parent-child relationships and in understanding one another truly hit home for me. the exploration of identity and the curiosities we have in trying to grow into our own self while battling inherited trauma and the burden we carry from our parents lives was so exquisitely written in this book.
