Christmas at the Shelter Inn
by RaeAnne Thayne
I'm trying really hard to read seasonal stories this year, to stay in the holiday spirit. I just don't think soft romance is necessarily for me. I thought the story was cute, predictable of course, but that's not the issue I take with this. I found the writing to be trite and repetitive, with themes being reiterated verbatim every few chapters rather than woven through the narrative.
I was not looking for the best book ever written though, I want to make clear. I am rating this 3 stars because I think it was cute and a fun little Christmas romance with respectable themes such as grief, family dynamics, and finding your place in this world.
The clichés were sweet and perfectly fine. I just think I need to give up on this genre/writing style as a whole. I adore romance, but I think I need another edge to it to really enjoy, such as fantasy, dystopia, history etc.
I would recommend this to any fan of romance and Hallmark movies!!! Please don't be turned off by my criticism. I think this book is exactly what it needs to be.
AND it's Low Spice, which I thought was a plus!!!
