The Aviator's Wife
by Melanie Benjamin
I'm still not sure how I feel about this book. It was difficult for me to feel sympathetic for Anne Lindbergh and I feel like the author spent the majority of the book trying accomplish just that by showing what a controlling and manipulative man Charles had been. I quit reading the book about three times because it was so frustrating to watch Anne excuse and accept her husband's behavior. On the other hand, I feel like it was an accurate depiction of what it is like to be in a abusive/controlling relationship. As an author I suppose you want to inspire strong feelings in your readers and I feel like she was successful in that. I don't think I liked the book as a whole, but I definitely felt a range of emotions as I read and did get wrapped up in the characters. So as you can see, I'm still ambivalent about this book.
