I quite enjoyed this book, but not as much as I was hoping I would. However this is a good 3.5 from me. (Not to be mistaken with bad 3.5, iykyk).
I really loved that it was set in Egypt, I haven't really read any historical fantasy's set in Egypt and I loved that. The world was very immersive and lush.
Our FMC, Inez, was a very sheltered young lady. But I did enjoy following along on her journey, even when at times she was quite dumb & too trusting.
The highlight for me though was Whit & the romance. Whit is my sort of MMC. He was funny & witty. He had a strong mask on but I loved seeing under the barrier. And I loved the tender romance between them. It made my heart happy.
The ending was pretty diabolical. And I am eager to read the second book!! That epilogue 👀
I was disappointed though in the magic. I was expecting so much more magic.
The pacing also felt really off to me, the first half especially was really slow. I feel if she improved the pacing it probably could have been a really solid standalone.
