The Quarry Girls by Jess Lourey

4.0

This was a captivating thriller — especially on audiobook! I enjoyed the different layers of the story: coming-of-age, learning who and who not to trust, being a teenager in a small town where your friends are being kidnapped and murdered but no adult wants to tell you anything.

The story followed Heather as she navigates her family life and friends. With a manic depressive mom and an absent dad, she discovers a lot of herself through her friends — but her girl friends are being kidnapped and no one is there to comfort her or provide answers.

It also follows Beth’s perspective, who is one of the girls that was kidnapped. She has to dig deep inside herself to find the strength to hold on and fight to see the light of day again.

My heart broke a lot for these girls during this book. It was also interesting to learn that the author based this off true crimes that took place in her hometown growing up in the 70’s. And you can tell with the fear and suspicion she puts into the story.
