Wow, I am surprised by how many 5-star reviews this book received! If you want to read a good hiking book, this isn't it...read Bill Bryson's 'A Walk in the Woods.' That said, I love dogs, and I found Atticus to be one cool, endearing pooch. But the stories the author tells of their adventures just repeat over and over while he tries to find himself and heal his childhood wounds. Ultimately, I'm happy that he has such a great bond with his canine friend, and that they have raised money for charity by hiking together, but this could have been an essay instead of a book.
