Second Grave on the Left by Darynda Jones
5.0

It’s official! I have fallen in love with this series! I have actually finished this entire series (what’s released so far) but I am going to review one book at a time.

As always, the character of Charley Davidson doesn’t disappoint. She’s sarcastic as always. In this book, we learn something new about her abilities in this book and I have a feeling that aside from the craziness that is the fact that she’s a Grim Reaper, we as readers are going to be blown away by what her full capabilities are as the series progresses. Reyes hints at something big here and there but states that he can’t tell her because she needs to learn on her own. I am thinking that it is going to floor us when we finally understand the full scope of what she is and what she can do.

Oh yeah, and Reyes Farrow may very well be my ex-husband on the page. The strong, sexy bad boy type. Even though you KNOW you should walk away, you just cant seem to keep away from him, no matter how hard you try to hate him. I cant wait to see where these two go in the future books. Right now, it’s all about the “will they or wont they?” tension.

Garret Swopes is growing on me like a fungus. As the books progress, I am liking him more and more. I think I would like him a whole lot better if we saw more of him in the books because he’s still not an overly prominent character.

The thing I love most about this series is how Darynda mixes the “mystery of the day” with the ongoing mystery that is Reyes Farrow. Because there are two major storylines happening at once, thee book seems to be much longer than it really is. The story ends up feeling really full and “robust” (if you can call a story robust). When you reach the end of one of these books, you see so much story happen that it feels like more than one book.

WARNING: This book has a plot bomb that will leave you slack jawed! Total stunner moment that completely took me by surprise.

Overall, I am giving Second Grave on the Left 4.5 stars! Another wonderful installment in a wonderful series!
