Darwin on Trial
by Phillip E. Johnson
A lawyer's critique of Darwin-Gould evolutionary theory. Not a particularly well-written book. It was difficult to move from one point to the next. He really does not deal with scientific data; he just criticizes the supposed paucity of data and the tendency he sees in evolutionists to asset that there is no design or creator in the formation of life. Some of his analysis is already behind the times. One of the most interesting points that he makes is that William Jennings Bryan was concerned about the spread of evolutionary attitudes to German militarism and robber baron capitalism, both of which ha an "ethic of ruthless competition." (5) The effects of this application of evolutionary thought to human behavior has indeed been devastating, but he does not pursue this line at all.
