Filthy Dark by Serena Akeroyd

4.0

I was curious to read Delcan's book after reading little snippets from the last book "Filthy Rich". You could say that out of all of the O'Donnelly brothers, Delcan is the calmest and quietest of them all. Hence, he can be seen as "the black sheep" of the family. He doesn't easily react, but when a recent revelation is brought to light, well, you could say that he was surprised, to say the least. Filthy Dark is a second chance mafia romance and book #3 in the Five Points' series. The events from the previous book continues on in Filthy Dark. It's multiple POV and there are flashbacks connecting to the events of the present time.  I enjoyed reading Connor and Brennan's perspective in this book, especially seeing the friendly banter between brothers. And I'm really impressed how Serena Akeroyd set up this world!  The transitions between each book are amazing, she connected the chain of events so well! Please keep in mind there are certain triggers and uncomfortable situations, hence it might be unsettling for some readers to read.

Delcan and Aela were childhood sweethearts, but there was a slight twist to their relationship. They didn't part ways on good terms, but that didn't stop them from loving each other for so many years. A twist of fate brought Aela and Delcan to cross paths. For the past 15 years, Aela hid a secret from Delcan, their son. Aela is aware of the dangers of being a part of the Five Points/Irish mob, hence her father was a member. Just like Delcan, she grew up in the criminal world. She didn't want that lifestyle for her son, but she did prepare/train herself and Seamus if or more like when danger arises; when their lives are at risk. Aela has a passion for art; she's an artist and art professor. Aela is totally badass! She would do go to any means necessary to protect her son. I mean, she wasn't afraid to speak her mind! She told Aiden Sr. off!! Aidan Sr. O'Donnelly (Delcan's father) is a bit cuckoo or psychotic, hence he's the most feared mobster in New York. But, he would do anything for his sons/family and despite all his craziness, from the very first book I really enjoyed seeing his interactions with his family. And Seamus! He's definitely an amazing character!! Would love to see him getting his own book. One of my highlights of this book was his dialogues with Delcan. And the ending! Loved it!
