The fact that this is a 20+ hour audiobook and 800+ page read, and I stuck with it and finished it in a few weeks? That I never once wanted to DNF? That I just wanted someone to talk to about it all?
Now, That's a great book lol
I had so many emotions while reading this book, especially since I listened to Part 1 of the Audiobook on speaker with my sister and Dad, who had a LOT to say about it.
He made me realize just how often Violet says that her stomach twists or that she felt bile rise in her throat ("I think she has IBS"), how much yearning there is between Xaden and Violet ("They're just making out and even that is too much"), and just how many characters die ("Does everyone die? Oh, they literally just said most won't survive the year. Guess that answers that.").
My favorite part of my dad listening was when he realized, after TWO HOURS of listening ot the audiobook, that they had dragons and rode the dragons ("OHHHH is that why they're called riders? That makes so much more sense")
Since I was listening to the graphic audio, I also had to sit through the sounds of SO MANY bones cracking, crushing, bl∞d gushing, and painful-sounding moans (the more you speed it up, the worse it gets lol).
Plot-wise, the beginning of the book, I felt kinda cheated, like so much happened that we as readers didn't get to experience because it happened elsewhere or while Violet was passed out. Then again, with the amount of t0rture in this book, I'm not sure if I really wanted all the details.
The end of the book... Oh my gosh. It's so intense that I was excited for the adventure, the moment all she's been looking for clicks into place, and what would happen next that I forgot how ruthless this world is. I ended up crying for all those lost (as usual) and so excited to know what is going to happen next!
