Secondborn by Amy A. Bartol

This book started off so good! I loved the concept, main character (Roselle) and the premise behind the book. The first sentence really grabs you - “It’s agony and relief to watch my life end.” ... like, wow!

But towards the middle it gets slow, and the romance that develops I feel like just happened almost by accident. After the romance starts, you find out he’s loved her for forever... but he can’t really - he’s only known her on screen. But I felt like there was no build up to them being together whatsoever.

And I feel like roselle gets week, and starts relying on others a lot, which contradicts the Roselle at the start of the book.

I feel like Bartol has much to offer, I just felt this book was a little lacking, almost as if it were rushed. Overall, I did like the book and will likely finish out the series because it is a good story.
