Enjoyed this book, it touches on a number of themes and metaphors in an original way.

An interesting take on the human species, power, society/class and genetics, while also being a fun, page turning story that has its flaws but one I'm still glad I read. The book pretty much taking place in the museum narrows the amount of worldbuilding and it would have been nice to know more of the world (perhaps in the next one?) This is a theme that feels like it permeates many aspects of the book in that there are a lot of great ideas, they just aren't explored particularly in depth. It does however make this a very easy read that you can relax with and not have to think too hard.

To begin with, the science sounds questionable and you start to wonder whether the author fully understands how evolution works - stick with it because all is later explained - the author does completely understand, it's some of the characters who are ignorant.

I also just wanted to point out that unlike one reviewer said, absolutely nowehere in this book does it say that humans evolved from chimpanzees, it correctly states we diverged 6 million years ago. I'm not sure where they got that impression from. So, although it's sci-fi and speculative, with some liberties having to be taken, there are no inaccuracies to take you out of the immersion.

Some of the book does build slowly and parts of it are flat and more difficult to get through, I found personally. It certainly hots up towards the end however and I feel it would make a really good movie.

It was a fun read, not one I'd say would break the mould or become a defining book in the genre or award winning series but still worth a read if you don't go in expecting the next big thing.
