The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway

3.0

This book makes very little sense when looked at from a modern point of view. I really didn't get it until I read up on the context, Hemingway's life, etc. Even then it's hard to shake my worldview and switch to appreciating a view of masculinity which I think is so damaging and wrong.

Equally, the style of prose may have been revolutionary at the time, and I'm grateful for all the new styles it facilitated, but this proto-style is hard to read
