Underworld
by Meg Cabot
Part of me really wants to like this book. It has a great premise and a good idea for a main character. But, I don't. No matter how hard I try to ignore the following things.
• Its ok for a main character to ask questions and not understand what is going on, but I felt like Pierce was asking stupid questions constantly, things that anyone would know. Then she would solve another problem that there were subtle hints for. What I'm trying to say is that they made her super dull and then super bright. It wasn't consistent.
• I feel like John is showing the signs of a abusive boyfriend. I'm going to include a link to a great article that talks about how Edward Cullen shows the signs of an abusive boyfriend including: Looks at you or acts in ways that scare you, Acts jealous or possessive,Tries to control how you spend your time, who you see or talk to, where you go or what you wear, Destroys your property. All from the Mayo Clinic. Now in reality he is not as bad as Edward but it doesn't change the fact that he fits the signs.
• Kinda predictable which is always disheartening.
• Leaving her poor mother. I understand leaving her fury grandmother but her mother was always there to protect her and now they gave that role to John.
• Alex is sooo annoying. Hopefully they expand on his character going forward and make him less whiny.
One other major problem is that when I worried that people thought I was reading erotica because of the cover. It looks like a sheet.
Overall I still love Meg because her action scenes are so absorbing and she can have you lost in the story.
