This book is the very definition of twisted! It's also the reason why accountability and justice are so important. All of it could've been avoided if one person had made the right choice at the very beginning, instead of the selfish one under the guise of "protection." As far as I care, they all got what they deserved (except for Bobby - poor Bobby was truly the only innocent one).
How do writers come up with such dark plots????? I'm afraid to try. Afraid that if I did, I would end up not liking who I am because I'll have discovered what I could be capable of thinking, which might lead to wanting, which could result in doing, and then I'd have a deep stain in my character that could never be covered up or cleansed. Like Lao Tzu said, " Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny."
Of course there's also the school of thought that it's healthy to write this stuff out so that it's not festering in your soul. Either way, I'm glad to leave this kind of writing to the pros!
