My Mum Tracy Beaker by Nick Sharratt, Jacqueline Wilson

4.0

4 stars - oh jacquline wilson!! how i looove your books. honestly i would (and do) reread my old jacqueline wilson books even now because they are masterpieces to me. stepping back into those worlds i used to experience as a child brings me sooo much joy.

this was a bit of a different one as (obviously) this is a character that i loved as a child, but now grown up! i love love love the character of tracy beaker, and i am soooo happy to see how she has both developed as she got older but also kept that same spirited personality that she had as a child. i loved the addition of other characters that we previously knew from tracy's childhood, but also enjoyed seeing tracy meet new characters and the way that she interacted with them as an adult.

i really enjoyed the plot of this book, it kept me entertained despite it being aimed at younger children and the little twist towards the end did add something extra to the book, although it may have been a little bit predictable (from an adults point of view i mean.) i loved the way that the story sort of pulled from tracy's childhood dreams of her mum being rich and the pink car she dreamt of and the hollywood lifestyle that she always wished for, and i thought the ending was quite fitting for tracy's story (no spoilers)

overall, 4 stars - a lovely little read and a great way to step back into those childhood stories and the characters that i loved. (also, i didn't realise how much i miss the addition of little pictures to go along with the story until now! brilliantly done nick sharratt.)
