Twenty five year old Maddie takes care of her father, who has Parkinson’s, while her mother spends extensive time in Ghana and her brother has made his own life. When Maddie’s mother returns home for a year, Maddie decides it’s time to move out.
I really liked Maddie, even though she seemed rather naive for her age. She’s a people pleaser learning to navigate the world on her own and she stumbles along the way. She gets back up and learns to stand up for herself. I wanted a little more from the plot and felt like things wrapped up a little too quickly - I read an e-version and was surprised when the epilogue popped up - but thought this was a solid debut.
