Station Eleven
by Emily St. John Mandel
This was that book.
This was that book that I had been on the wait list with the library forever for and was so excited to read because everyone and their Uncle Bob had thought it was the cat's pajamas.
This was that book that I read and was completely disappointed to find that I felt disconnected, impartial, and utterly underwhelmed.

I'm not sure where this went wrong for me. It mentioned Shakespeare. SHAKESPEARE. This should have been a sure thing! I just didn't really care about the characters or the plot or anything at all other than how many pages I had left.
I will admit that I judge a book that has gotten such rave reviews with a much more critical eye than those that have not, which is why this is a 3 Star for me. The three stars are for the writing, which was always good and sometimes even great:
They were afraid of everyone who wasn't them.
This is my soul and the world unwinding, this is my heart in the still winter air.
...the more you remember, the more you've lost.
