The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
4.75

when I first read this book years ago I would have given it 100000000 stars... I was so obsessed and thought it was the greatest book ever written. I still feel extremely fond of tsoa and the nostalgia I get from it is insane, but over the years I've realised its faults and have read better books, so 13 year old me would be devastated to know I've not given it 5 stars. I just dont really like how Miller treats her female characters and imposes modern moral ideas like monogamy and other such things to sanitise the story. Why bother basing the story off of  patroclus and achilles when so much of their actual characters are changed to be more palatable? I also think most of the section of the book set during the war is quite forgettable and I wish it was more exciting.
But also...... the way patroclus and achilles' relationship is developed..... literally thinking about it makes me tear up its just so wonderful. I have never cried so hard because of a book before and I dont think I ever will again, so maybe one day this will become a 5 star again.
