Oh my...I must've missed something since this got an incredible Goodreads rating...

I kinda read this? This is my first official book that I did not finish, and therefore, my first official 1-star read. I made it about halfway, skimmed some other parts, and read a little bit at the end. But, all things considered, I did not "read" this book.

I wasn't even going to put this in my "read" books because I didn't even feel it warranted anything - a rating, review, etc., but I will give it one star and one star only. Mostly, this is because of Simon. Poor guy, jeez. Also, the writing wasn't absolutely horrible - it was readable!

Buuuuuut, I absolutely HATED the romance. Grumpy sunshine is one of my least favorite tropes, but I do not mind it if it's done well. It was not done well here. Jonah was the worst. THE WORST. I truly cannot believe we are romanticizing him and his "romance" with Calla. He was a walking red flag and a straight-up asshole. Gross. Spoiler: My absolute favorite line at the end is when Calla hasn't heard from Jonah in a month, and he shows up at her doorstep in Toronto. When she states she hasn't heard from him, he responds, "it was too hard." LOL, texting is just such a freaking burden. Calla was a bit of a princess as well.

I tried to hold on because I then wanted to see what would happen with Calla and Wren, the father/daughter duo. I thought we would see a decent reconciliation with growth and maturity within it. NOPE. And, listen, even if there wasn't a good reconciliation, I wouldn't have minded it if Calla wasn't blamed for it the whole time. Turns out Wren was just shoving all his emotions and feelings as far up his butthole as he could and thrived on being a horrendous father. What a disappointment. It changed a bit at the end, but whatever.

Good riddance to this book.
