The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu
3.0

Highly inventive and mind bending. Dragged down by stilted and sometimes clumsy writing.

Other media treats science like magic by only giving enough surface level explanation to drive the story. Liu prioritizes fleshing out the science. Unfortunately, character motivations/dynamics, plot movement, and video games end up being the magic.

The perspective and background on the cultural revolution was interesting.

Worth a read.
