4.25

I loved this.
Ofc I didn’t enjoy the writing style.
With it being a true Holocaust story I was just hoping for more , more emotion.
There were several times throughout the book where I wanted to cry but the emotion just wasn’t there.

The only time I cried was when they finally found each other again and ofc I’m not looking to cry but Holocaust stories always make me cry because of everything that happened. Everything that they had to endure and keep enduring with even after their lives outside of the camps.

The readers were told of everything harsh and inhumane that the characters went through but it didn’t feel like we were actually there.

However, the reason I’m giving this book 4.25 stars is because of the story overall.

I loved how even in the darkest of times Lale had hope and he fought his way to get back to Gita.
I loved the epilogue where their son told us how his mom was singing even when they had to close down their business and pack their belongings.

It shows just how much their lives were changed because of the three years.
I just wish I would’ve felt the emotion that Gary , their son, showed in his writing through the story because that is the emotion I needed.
