The Fantasy League by Meg Reading
DID NOT FINISH

After debating for a few days, I’ve decided to DNF this book at about 40% because I keep just looking at it and not actually wanting to continue reading.

It’s very much a Wall of Winnipeg and Me knock off, like the author read that and said “I’m going to do this same thing in less pages, with more boring characters and worse writing.”

There’s not much about KU/self publishing I hate more than plot ripoffs. And that’s not meaning a use of popular tropes or character types, but where the plots overlap about 85% and you can just tell the author has obviously read the original before.

I’m also not one to blame booktok for what I choose to read. My reading choices are on me, but this is exactly why I avoid reading any books that I only (or even mostly) see promo-ed on the author’s page. Obviously an author is going to talk up their own book, so I only tend to pick up books I see advertised by other people (though I have a theory about small-time authors having fake accounts for this exact reason, but that’s for another time). But I KEPT seeing the author’s posts about the second book in this series and I was intrigued so I thought I’d start from the beginning, and here we are.

I know Wall of Winnipeg isn’t on KU right now because of some people reporting issues (I asked Amazon support bc I wanted to reread) but it should be on there in a few months, so I’d just wait and read that.
