The first hundred pages or so had me convinced this book was going to be at least a 4 star book. But then things kinda went downhill from then on.
The story is very readable, I had my fun with it; the premisse was so interesting. But then after those hundred pages it seems like the story lost itself. Up until then we were setting the story up, creating the enviromnent, giving the reader a feel for what that world was like. After that is when things really start happening, and it just seemed so rushed. Like all the important things, which should've been given more time to develop, were simply rushed.
There are books which I think are too long for its purpose. This one is the opposite - I think it should've been longer and allowed itself to develop properly.
Something that bothered me a lot was
how fast Sophia forgets her love for Erin as soon as she meets Contance. There's also a lot of showing when there should be telling. We never really get to see Erin and Sophia's relationship so we can relate to their conflict, we never properly see anything of importante between Sophia and Constance to show why they should be together, we never see how Liv mattered to Sophia (her death felt like nothing to me). Also the instant love between Sophia and Constance was very annoying.

I never felt like Sophia was at any real risk. Things also solved themselves too easily. There were so many cool concepts that could be better explored. Seriously. I feel for the things that this book could've been.
Also, is it hypocritical of me to think that the ending was too fairy-tale like? lmao
Anyway. Still giving it 3 stars because it was a really easy read, and it kept me going even when I was annoyed.
