The Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang

Did not finish book.
I find it difficult to reconcile writing a review with the reality that I didn't finish this book, but I wanted to record my thoughts on it as much as anything else.

It wasn't that the writing was bad - I read over half way before abandoning, and if it had actually been bad it would have died long before that. It wasn't even that the characters were dull, as they too were perfectly engaging - Misaki has a great backstory, and there's clearly more she will reveal, and her son Mamoru will inevitably mature and learn about the world in interesting ways.

It was more that everything seemed to take a terribly long time to happen, and although when it did it was quite interesting, the fact of the long wait, and the mostly-telegraphed plot, meant that in the end I just didn't care enough. Sorry. Two stars only.
