Never a Mistress, No Longer a Maid by Maureen Driscoll

4.0

Enjoyed this book quite a bit. This is the second time I've tried to read it-- for whatever reason, I find the initial chapter where the two meet kind of off putting, I suspect bc the hero hasn't really grown up yet.

Enjoyed the heroine a lot, and liked that the hero, when he found out about his daughter, wanted to help out without impinging on the heroine's autonomy. Felt the "but i won't marry you!!" stuff went on too long, but yk, the formula. Kid was sweet and interesting and not annoying.

The rando gay minor villain who
was being blackmailed for the gay
was kind of out of the blue, and also nothing was really done with him?? Also felt like there could have been more set up of the sister's political sensibilities (see: second book) in this book, it's kind of out of the blue when you get there.
