The Houston After Dark series by Deborah Garland is one I've had the pleasure of reading from the very start, with the exception of the 0.5 novella, Off Limits Lover. From book one, Rough Lover it had promise of being a great series full of brooding, alpha-male types, hidden kinks and plenty of steamy romance. Though book two, Hard Lover and now through book three, Untamed Lover that most certainly has been the case. Each alpha-male brought something else to the table.
By now if you've also been a reader of the series, you would've seen mentioned our leading man who now is the star of his own novel. Zane Warren. We think we know about Zane based off of what we have previously read about him, but how wrong we were. We truly knew nothing about this man who under the surface, is a whole different ballgame. He's a growly, grumbly, burly bodyguard that I have grew to both love and lust after. Zane, just wow!
Accompanying Zane on this steamy adventure, is someone already very close to him and just as forbidden. Serafina 'Fina' Warren. No, she's not Zane's sister or stepsister, but his brother's ex-wife. Forbidden fruit so close, tempting and delicious. Fina and Zane are brought together again as fate has decided to push their forked paths together into one once again. Fina, a determined and strong-willed woman in her own right has to do what she can for the one she loves, as is Zane. These two can only be best described as enemies-to-lovers because despite a past linking them together, they're on two sides of the same coin and have as much to prove to each other as they do to themselves. The journey from enemies to lovers is by far an easy one, mentally and thanks to the many bumps in their road but when they do get there, the heat that has slowly been building is now a soaring, roaring fire.
One thing I simply have to talk about, is how much the fire is kicked up in this novel. Admittedly book two, Hard Lover, is my personal favourite so far of this series, but Untamed Lover does best it in terms of the kink factor. The 'daddy kink' is real, in this novel and I am here for it! There are books out there that take that element and add heaps and heaps of cringe, but not this one. Untamed Lover has you biting your lip every time its cried out. I'll leave that there to your own imaginations.
All in all, I'm thrilled to have given this novel a chance. Deborah has been an author I've been reading for a hot minute now, and this by far has to be my favourite series that I've read from her. Untamed Lover--and the series--shows the growth of an author from when we first started reading their work, and this is the point for me where I can see that growth and Deborah's story only get better and better. Well done!
