Double Shot by Gwen Martin

4.0

3.5 / 5 stars for me on this one.

What I loved about this was the exploration of recovery with alcoholism; the impact on life was portrayed beautifully. From familial relationships to personal ones, the author really dove into this and I found myself appreciative of how well this part of the story was written. I loved how it impacted the character's association with his kink, and how it played a role in the relationship with West and Rhys.

I did find myself lacking a connection with Rhys; other than his relationship with his father, I never really found myself connecting into his headspace, unlike I did with West.

One thing I was disappointed in was the lack of description surrounding the kink. I'm not sure whether it was an unfair expectation of the book based on the others in this series, but I was hoping for more of West and Rhys exploring their relationship with the kink included. For me, this is where the book fell for me. All in all, it was a unique storyline and fits well in the Bold Brew series.

If you're looking for something heavy with angst, light on kink details, but you're curious about age-play, this may be the book for you.
