A Certain Justice by P.D. James
☀️☀️☀️🌤️

▪️ In another very successful crime novel from this series, James is still glaringly ahead of me in the score of correct guesses!
▪️ The structure of this particular Dalgliesh novel was effective in painting an accurate picture of the characters involved without lingering too long. As always it was a slower pace than I prefer so it took about 100 pages to get into the narrative but it was one of the few in this series so far that left me wanting to read on eagerly
▪️The minimal character development of Dalgleish was made up for in the interesting expansion of Kate Miskin and also the good variety of people within the investigation itself. Reading the perspectives of Octavia and Ashe later on in the piece were particularly nail-biting
▪️The reflection within the story of how the criminal justice system performs was a clever and intriguing theme to carry throughout and definitely provided another level of depth to the narrative that otherwise might have been lacking
▪️ Overall this has to be one of my favourite Dalgliesh stories so far - it is well paced, thought-provoking and was a fun read despite the morbid subject matter.

"Murderers do not usually give their victims notice. This is one death which, however terrible that last second of appalled realization, comes mercifully unburdened with anticipatory terror."

"It's strange that the consequences of a misjudgment can be more destructive than the consequences of a mortal sin."
