from the reviews I think people understood this as taking place in the 1970s, this clearly does not take place then- that’s when the body gets dug up. the story itself takes place in the 1930s (1936 is mentioned in chapters 18, 20).

Nate Love II

dies in 1972, in the epilogue, the same year as the hurricane.

the book is definitely worth more than what i’ve rated it but it felt like reading non-fiction and the writing style was tough for me to adjust to. wasn’t what i was promised but still good/compelling, just a hard read. 

i would say expect more of a short story anthology w a very strong connecting thread rather than a novel & you’ll come out loving this book :-)
