Ronaldo: The Phantom Carrot Snatcher by Maxine Sylvester

4.0

Ronaldo wants to win the Golden Snowflake so bad. All he has to do is be the fastest reindeer in his class at the Reindeer Flying Academy. He just has to be the fastest on his last two flying tests and the Golden Snowflake is all his! All is going well until he finds a young wolf named Ernie hiding in the bushes by his house. Ernie is lost and needs Ronaldo to help her find her family. Ronaldo is torn between winning the Golden Snowflake or being a good friend and helping Ernie. Which will he choose? You’ll have to read it to find out!

I was asked to review this book through my blog and I was a little nervous because I had never reviewed a children’s book before. Now that I have read the book and I’m writing this review, I have no idea what I was nervous about. The author did a brilliant job of making this book easy to read and to enjoy.

Most of the reindeer names should sound familiar given they are named after Santa’s reindeer except for Ronaldo and Ernie.
Ronaldo’s character was really nice and mostly innocent. He has a big heart and loves to help others and I think that’s my favorite thing about him.

Rudolph or Rudi is Ronaldo’s best friend and would do anything to help him.
Ernie is a very young wolf who is lost and can’t her way back to her pack without help. She is silly and trusts Ronaldo whole-heartedly.

This book teaches a great lesson on how to be a good friend when you’re in a bind between being selfish or helping a friend. I think this is a great book for children who are starting to read chapter books.
